Best site managers in the UK named at house-building’s top awards

nhbcFive site managers from the house-building sector have been recognised for building to the highest standards after being named the UK’s Supreme Winners at the Pride in the Job Awards 2014 final, hosted by the National House-Building Council (NHBC).

The awards are dedicated to recognising site managers who oversee housing projects from start to finish. Now in its 33rd year, NHBC inspectors began judging developments eighteen months ago, assessing managers against stringent criteria based on the definitive technical standards laid out by NHBC.

The winners of the competition’s five builder categories beat around 15,000 others and received their awards at a black-tie event in Westminster, hosted by comedian John Bishop.

Amongst the winners were Rob Summers of Redrow Homes South Wales – who won the Large Builder category for Cwm Calonl in Penallta Road, Ystrad Mynach Hengoed – and Damian Bates of Berkeley Homes (South East London), who was named as the Multi-storey Builder category winner for One Tower Bridge in Southwark, London.

Stuart Gillespie of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes took the Medium Builder category title for the second year in a row for managing the build of Greenan Views in Doonfoot, Ayr.

Finally, Derek Ratcliffe of Landex Living was named the winner of the Small Builder category for Park Gate in Ipswich, Suffolk, while Shaun Forrester of J J Lattimer won the Single Home category for Greensyke Lane in Dalston, Carlisle.

Mike Quinton, NHBC chief executive, said:

“NHBC exists to drive up standards in new-build housing, and the Pride in the Job Awards have been an integral part of that mission for nearly 35 years. Site managers play a central part in the success of any project, but the benchmark for success rises each year. Our champions beat an incredible number of others to win the title, and can justifiably claim to be among the best in the business.”

The runners-up in each category were:

Large – Simon Jones, BDW Homes Mercia for Woodthorne, Wergs Rd, Wolverhampton

Multi-storey – Andy Shaw, Taylor Wimpey Midlands for Diglis Water, Dock Rd, Worcester

Medium – Gregg Taylor, Morris Homes (North) for Edgewater Park, Warrington

Small – Alan Lynas, Porter & Co for Farriers Green, Hillsborough, Co. Down

Single Home – Indi Hothi, CISSH Property Group for 9 Rambler Lane, Slough

Pride in the Job is the only award scheme in the UK to recognise the contribution a site manager makes to a development. The NHBC says it is one of the most intense and celebrated awards in the industry, marking out recipients as exceptional performers in UK house-building.
