Encon commits to charitable effort

Rainy Day Trust The Encon Group has joined up with the Rainy Day Trust to help support former workers in the home improvement industry.

The group and its businesses – Encon Insulation and Nevill Long – have become official partners of the charity, which is reporting a ‘steady and disturbing’ increase in applications for assistance from those who have been forced to cut short their working lives due to illness.

An estimated one million current and past employees from the home improvement and enhancement industries are currently eligible for help from the Rainy Day Trust, which says Encon’s partnership contribution comes at a time of particular need.

Deborah Gore, HR director at Encon Group, said: “We feel grateful that we are in a position where we can give people in our industry a helping hand when they need it most.”

The charity exists solely to help people who have worked in the UK’s home improvement and enhancement industry, which includes businesses such as builders’ merchants, DIY shops, hardware stores, garden centres and cook shops as well as the manufacturers, distributors and retailers which supply them.

It is run by a board of trustees comprising suppliers, retailers, wholesalers, trade associations and the trade press, and is already supported by a number of associations and organisations.
