Hadley Group achieves zero waste to landfill

Demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship, Hadley Group has become the first rollforming company in the UK to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for Zero Waste to Landfill.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in the group’s sustainability journey – earning it a place on an impressive roster of names to receive the prestigious Carbon Trust Standard, including Coca-Cola European Partners, Selfridges and Bentley Motors.

As a highly respected, independent benchmark, the Carbon Trust Standard is one of the world’s most prominent environmental certifications and is only awarded to organisations that are working to deliver real reductions in their environmental impact.

Hadley Group chairman and managing director Stewart Towe commented: “We are constantly striving to reduce the environmental impact of our products, from minimising the use of raw materials, to eliminating waste throughout the supply chain. True sustainability needs to be an integral part of a company’s identity, so it is heartening to know that many of the processes required to meet the Carbon Trust’s exacting criteria were already in place throughout our operations. Achieving this standard is a fantastic endorsement of our efforts to truly live our sustainability values.”

To achieve certification, Hadley Group provided evidence of the routes through which it diverts waste from landfill, such as reuse, recycling and recovery. This includes close monitoring of contractors, with full audits trails on waste streams and quarterly checks to confirm strict compliance.

At its own sites, segregation routes have been established for the various types of waste and employees have been given full training to ensure these are adhered to.

From a manufacturing perspective, Hadley Group’s patented UltraSTEEL process – winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation – reduces surplus material at the point of origin, as less metal is required in the production process, while technologically advanced machinery allows for high accuracy with lower waste.

Morgan Jones, associate director at the Carbon Trust, commented: “As the first rollforming company to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for Zero Waste to Landfill, we are delighted to independently recognise the progress that Hadley Group has made in becoming a more sustainable business. Through diverting its waste streams away from landfill, Hadley Group has shown a clear commitment to reducing its environmental impact and supporting the transition to a more resource-efficient economy.”
