Roofdec secures largest project in 46-year history

Rotherham-based Roofdec has secured the Thorpe Park Retail and Leisure project from Leeds based main contractor GMI with a contract value of £9m.

This will be the largest project in value ever carried out by Roofdec and is set to start in August 2017, running for a total of 52 weeks.

The new development includes retail, cinema and other leisure facilities and, as well as incorporating 26,000m² of roofing, the external envelope is a mixture of high-specification cladding including 10,000m² of Kingspan Benchmark Karrier system; 3,500 m² of granite and limestone rain screen; 4,500m² of aluminium rain screen; 3,000m² of stainless steel panels, and column casings together with other areas of Rodeca and aluminium plank systems.

Managing director John Barnes Snr told RCI: “Given the uncertainty in the economy at the moment this project gives us the backbone of our turnover for the coming 12 months and will be a great addition to our already impressive portfolio of prestigious developments.

“However, as with any project of this size and nature, we cannot underestimate the massive team effort it will take to ensure its success.”
