Roofclad Systems has announced that turnover is on the rise following its acquisition by a new owner 18 months ago.

The company says that entrepreneur and businessman David Tilley has taken the business to new heights and increased turnover by over 50% from £3.3m when he took over in 2014 to almost £5m by the end of this financial year (March 31).

Employee numbers have also grown to over 50 operatives and staff, including two key appointments that the company says will add strength and depth to its management team.

Alex Tilley, formerly of Mitie Tilley and a surveyor / estimator by profession, has joined as a director, alongside Richie Henderson who has joined as contracts manager to drive project delivery.

During the last six months, Roofclad has also invested over £80,000 in fabrication machinery – a RAS Reinhardt sheet metal guillotine and sheet metal power folder. This investment allows Roofclad to manufacture its own roofing components such as steel and aluminium flashings.

By the end of the financial year, Roofclad’s vehicle fleet will also have increased by a further six vans.

Mr Tilley, who is no stranger to the roofing industry having sold his former business D W Tilley in 2008, believes that this investment in staff, machinery and fleet will not only make the company more profitable in the medium term, but contribute to greater efficiency, allowing Rooflcad to respond more swiftly to customers’ requirements with faster turnaround times.

He commented: “The market is very buoyant at the present time and we are seeing a significant increase in the level of enquiries.

“Looking ahead, we aim to expand the business by spreading geographically. We are already looking at projects in Cumbria, Scotland and as far south as London, so we are certainly not limited to bidding for contracts solely in the North East.

“My established relationships are continuing to lead to a raft of good opportunities and we hope to be able to announce details of some project wins next month. We have a talented and enthusiastic team in place now at Roofclad and I am delighted by the progress we are making.”
