SPRA The Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) is to hold two Training Open Days in January 2016, with the purpose of educating both SPRA members and non-members of the many training programmes available to apprentices and experienced contractors in order to achieve its recommended Level 2 Vocational Qualification for Single Ply Roofing.

The first open day will take place on Thursday 7 January at the Briggs Amasco Training Centre in the West Midlands and the second is at the SERS Training Facility in Caerphilly on Thursday 21 January.

Cathie Clarke, CEO of SPRA explained: “As an independent organisation our mission is to improve skills and knowledge across the industry and ensure that installers are fully conversant with all aspects from installation through to after care to ensure a long lasting roof covering.

“Our training days will provide contractors with a clear understanding of exactly what training courses are on offer. Furthermore we will also be sharing details of the very attractive incentive funding currently available from the CITB for ‘in-scope’ companies making now the perfect time to think about up-skilling employees.”

SPRA recommends that all contractors installing single ply roofing systems achieve the Level 2 Vocational Qualification for Single Ply Roofing and use this to gain a blue ‘Skilled Worker’ CSCS card.

The Single Ply Roofing Association operates three different routes to achieving the level 2 qualification, from pure assessment through OSAT (On Site Assessment and Training) for experienced contractors, through to a Specialist Apprenticeship Programme (SAP) for those just entering the industry or who need additional off-site training of twenty-five days.

SPRA also runs a Specialist Up-skilling Programme (SUP) for those needing some off-site training (between five and thirteen days) to support the assessment process.

SPRA says it is also focused on assisting non-SPRA members to improve employee skills and encourage them to consider SPRA contractor membership in order to achieve quality and technical excellence across the industry among SPRA manufacturers, associates and contractors alike.

The deadline for booking onto the January training days is Friday 18 December, 2015. For further information contact enquiries@spra.co.uk, or to make a booking for the West Midlands event book here,or for the Caerphilly event book here.
