Specialist architectural powder coater Powdertech Corby has announced that one of the company’s directors, Giles Ashmead, has been appointed president of the Aluminium Federation (ALFED).

ALFED represents the entire aluminium industry from smelters to recyclers and end users and currently has over 80 members.

Amongst its many roles, the Federation speaks on behalf of its members on relevant issues and manages the All Party Parliamentary Group on Aluminium.

The Federation also works to expand the market for aluminium products in the UK and works closely with European Aluminium and the International Aluminium Institute.

Giles has been a board member of the Aluminium Federation (ALFED) since 2009 and was appointed vice-president in March 2016. Powdertech says his many years of experience in the aluminium sector and his technical knowledge are especially valued.

He also played a key role in the smooth transition of the Aluminium Federation from an amalgamation of smaller associations, including the Aluminium Finishers Association – of which he was Chairman – to a new direct membership model in 2015.

Speaking of his appointment, he said: “ALFED plays a vital role for all parts of the UK aluminium industry and I am delighted to be President. My focus will be on raising issues concerning the UK’s aluminium industry to get the best deal from legislators and to increase the perceived value of the Federation with its members. The industry needs to be fully supported so members benefit from new markets and technological developments with increased supply chain interaction.”
