Joy Global’s new £10m, 25,000m² production and testing facility at Logistics North, near Bolton, designed by APL Architects and Healy Consulting, has been built by main contractor Russells Construction.
As part of the design & build contract, Range Roofing advised and installed 2300m² of Protan EX-A single ply membrane, adhered to the roof. The new facility gives 4000m² manufacturing space and 3500m² office accommodation.
The purpose-designed and built facility includes bespoke elements to allow for testing of heavy mining equipment and machinery, which can weigh up to 100 tonnes and bear loads of up to 2,500 tonnes.
Reflecting the ethos of the building below of solutions for extreme environments, the Protan membrane was developed to exceed the severe conditions of Scandinavian winter and was installed during one of the wettest periods contractor Range Roofing had ever encountered.
Craig Stockton, of Range Roofing, commented: “The roof at Joy was such a large area in an exposed location that we felt that the added insulation provided with Protan EX-A, it being fleece-backed, was the most appropriate solution.”
