AIM expands range of thermal upstand boards for parapets to flat roofs

AIM has expanded its range of thermal upstand boards for flat roof applications. The insulation specialist has published a new datasheet containing the latest test data for the comprehensive range of upstand boards, which are available in both standard and bespoke sizes and are compatible with most flat roof systems.

The primary function of AIM’s insulated upstand boards is to prevent cold bridging the parapet upstand to the internal envelope of the building.  AIM manufactures the boards from a variety of insulation materials, including the leading brands of extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam and Stone Wool, which are bonded to AIM’s external grade, high impact, highly weather resistant, fibre cement facing board.

The range of insulation substrates provides a choice of thermal performances, generally between 0.030 to 0.040 W/mK, to meet the requirements of most projects and the facing board has a thermal resistance of 0.30 W/mK.

The boards do not require finishing or sealing once installed but can be easily finished with a variety of paints if an aesthetic finish is required.

In addition to standard sizes, pre-cut boards come in a wide range of sizes to suit specific parapet heights. AIM manufactures custom dimension products and has the capacity to manufacture boards up to 2400 x 1200mm in different thicknesses to suit the project. Boards can be supplied pre-cut to height to avoid cutting on site.

For buildings over 11 metres in height, AIM has a new limited-combustibility upstand board option backed with Stone Wool insulation, which achieves Euroclass A2-s1,d0.

“With AIM’s comprehensive, expanded upstand product range and flexible service, we can meet the specifications of most architects and system holders,” says Ian Exall, AIM’s commercial director.

Installation is straightforward.  The boards should be cut to size using a TCT saw – a FFP3 face mask is advised along with PPE abrasion resistant gloves and PPE impact resistant goggles. AIM recommends a pan head fixing for the substrate or similar approved.
