King Alfred’s Academy in Wantage opened its science facilities in 2018, which features EcoTherm’s Eco-Versal insulation board in the flooring.
The Wantage Academy decided to merge its three sites onto two to improve the student experience and speed up transition time between lessons. To create additional teaching space at the academy’s Portway Site, a new science block was built, which includes 12 classrooms and nine laboratories featuring high specification equipment.
The two-storey construction, valued at £6 million, has replaced two 1960s buildings and aims to help its students realise their ambitions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. EcoTherm Insulation says it has ensured an easy to install and cost-effective way to achieve Building Regulation compliance with supplying one of its products as part of the build-up.
EcoTherm Eco-Versal five in one solution insulation board has been installed by Midlands Floor Screeding beneath their screed floor system. Achieving a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK across all applications, the board comprises a rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core that is faced with aluminium foil composite on both sides and can be used in floors, walls, roofs, dormer cheeks and ceilings. The lightweight boards also reportedly allow for easy manual handling and can be simply cut to size with a fine-toothed saw.
All EcoTherm products have a fibre-free core manufactured with a blowing agent which has zero Ozone Depletion Potential, (ODP) with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
