Insulation specialist Actis is calling for the construction industry to play its part in reducing its environmental impact after news of the world’s biggest iceberg threatens colonies of penguins and seals.

The iceberg, the size of Cornwall and the height of the Shard, could kill colonies of king penguins and some of the millions of elephant and fur seals in South Georgia if they are cut off from food supplies, scientists fear.

Mark Cooper, UK and Ireland sales director for Actis, said: “The potential impact of the 3,500km2 iceberg is the latest sign that we need to take action to slow the speed of climate change. Even though scientists say this particular incident was not caused by global warming, similar scenarios are.

“More and more specifiers are appreciating that our range of insulation solutions offer a quick, clean and easy way to create a thermally efficient building, thus reducing the need to burn fuel. And our own production processes are also designed to minimise our impact on the environment.”

Mark said that building and creating construction materials in a more sustainable manner is also vital to ensure specifiers comply with more stringent Part L and Part O regulations as the industry move towards The Future Homes Standard.

The business’ ‘doing more with less’ video examines its approach to sustainability and its two, updated RIBA-approved CPDs Tomorrow’s Insulation Solutions for Future Homes Standards and Addressing the Performance Gap with Reflective Insulation help specifiers meet energy efficiency targets and achieve as-built performance.
