The entry deadline for the 2025 BMI Apprentice of the Year competition is set to close on Monday 28 April at midnight. Submissions can be in written or video format.
Now in its eighth year, BMI said its scheme offers a chance for roofing apprentices to show off their skills and passion, and meet industry experts.
Two winners will be chosen, one in flat roofing and one in pitched roofing. They will receive a £1,000 cash prize and three years’ worth of free training at the BMI Academy.
Up to 20 apprentices will be chosen to compete in the final which will be held on 23 and 24 July 2025 at the BMI Academy in Gloucestershire, hosted by BMI UK & Ireland.
Over two days, pitched and flat roofing apprentices will be challenged to show off their skills including technical ability, but also teamwork, presentation skills, marketing and commercial acumen.
The judging panel will be made up of industry leaders who will assess the apprentices’ skills on the day and provide coaching to improve their abilities.
Fraser Biles, commercial director at BMI, said: “The deadline for entries is now only days away, and it looks like this year’s competition is set to be the biggest yet. We’ve had some fantastic entries so far, but we want to make sure we get the best of the best, so don’t want anyone to miss their chance to apply.
“The competition is an opportunity for the best roofing apprentices to network with experts in the industry, as well as learn skills beyond pure roofing. After all, the job also involves marketing, sales, financial planning, and so much more. This competition gives us an opportunity to celebrate the industry as a whole.”
