Conservatory roof sales drive 30% growth forecast for Metrotile UK

metrotileMetrotile UK says a surge in sales for roofing of conservatories is behind more than 30% of projected annual growth for the lightweight tile firm.

The company has recently sold its millionth tile in 2014 and is forecasting sales of 1.16m tiles by the end of the year, turning over œ7.1m, with net profits thought to reach œ679,000. September proved to be the most sucessful month for the Chippenham-based firm, recording sales of over 120,000 tiles.

The company says the sale of tiles for conservatories is driving this performance, as a major boost to its lightweight steel tiles has provided 25% of the firm’s growth this year.

John Cunningham, managing director of Metrotile UK – which employs 17 staff in Wiltshire and around the UK – said: “It’s proving to be a great time for us. On top of rising sales in our more traditional markets in commercial and domestic roofing, the surge in conservatory sales is really accelerating our expansion.

“For decades the problem with conservatories is that they have been too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, effectively rendering them useless for ten months of the year.

“The thing about lightweight steel tiles is that they require much less structural support – perfect for lighter structures and low-pitch roofs, highly versatile but remaining aesthetically pleasing.”

The company says its tiles are practical, economical and sustainable, as well as being seven times lighter than traditional roof materials such as clay and slate. However, they still offer protection and security, as well as a 40-year guarantee on all products in the range.

Mr Cunningham added: “Apart from continuing to grow in the conservatory market, we are also really keen to forge relationships with developers. We believe Metrotile roofs can create a change of practice on timber frame construction, in terms of being pre-constructed and quickly lifted into place, rather than being assembled once the frame is erected and exposed to the elements.”
