Cupa Pizarras sponsers SkillBuild

Cupa Pizarras has announced its sponsorship of the roof slating and tiling heats of the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) SkillBuild competition 2018. SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices, allowing them to compete in their chosen field, from roof slating to carpentry, stonemasonry to plastering.

The 33 competitors for the roof slating and tiling stages will be required to undertake a specific project and demonstrate time management, commitment and technical ability. They will need to show accurate interpretation of drawings as well as cutting, pointing and application techniques using the appropriate personal protective equipment to safely create a secure structure free from defects.

Cupa Pizarras is supplying over 4,000 of its natural slates as well as polo shirts and caps for all competitors to wear.

Simon Dixon, training manager and technical officer at the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), said: “We are extremely grateful to Cupa Pizarras for their commitment and offering to sponsor all the roofing heats, as well as the national final, at such short notice. By taking the time to assist us and offering to provide the products free of charge, Cupa Pizarras has allowed the young roofers to compete with the best quality materials.”

Julian Gomez, director of marketing at Cupa Pizarras, said: “At Cupa Pizarras we are mindful of a looming skills shortage in the roofing sector in the UK and are therefore delighted to have the opportunity to encourage the younger generation to develop an interest in the craft. Slate is almost a roofing discipline in itself, requiring a different skill set than other artificial products.

“We are thrilled to see young roofers interested in the product and willing to test their abilities in this competition, so it’s only right to support them, their colleges, and the event in the best way we can.”
