Date for Women in Roofing Conference 2018 announced

The construction industry in the UK has long been perceived as a man’s industry and it is true that it is a male-dominated profession. However, the WIR believes more needs to be done to attract women to the business and with Britain leaving the EU, questions are still being asked as to where we will find the workers to plug the skills-gap that the industry faces. The sector relies heavily on skilled migrants from the EU and, according to research by the Federation of Master Builders, 12% of the British construction workforce is of non-UK origin. This means that the industry has to do everything in its power to attract the next generation of British construction professionals and promote the industry as an attractive career choice; the WIR points out that this means promoting the profession to women as well as men, and breaking down the cliché that it is a male industry. The WIR says that women are an untapped resource for the construction industry and their potential has to be unlocked. A way of doing this is by emphasizing and celebrating the women that currently work in the industry and are progressing their careers in this male-dominated environment. The Women in Roofing Conference aims to do this through promoting the role of women in the industry, training and future events.
The third Women in Roofing Conference will take place on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Raddison Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport. The conference aims to promote and support women’s advancement in the roofing industry. This year’s event will focus on the ‘Image of the Industry’ and will feature key note speakers and networking opportunities.
