The Building Safety Regulator has opened the mandatory registration process for high-rise residential buildings in England.
It is a legal requirement under the Building Safety Act 2022 for all of the approximately 12,500 higher-risk buildings (residential buildings 18m tall or higher, or at least seven storeys tall, with two or more residential units) to be registered with the Building Safety Regulator by 1 October 2023.
The Principal Accountable Person (PAP) for each building, or someone authorised by them, is also required to complete the registration process.
The registration service is now open and the fee to register each building is £251.
Registering buildings in scope will be a legal requirement and owners and managers who fail to comply by October 2023 will be investigated and may face prosecution.
