A management buyout was recently conducted at Filon ensuring the company maintains its current operating principles, philosophies and successful growth through continuity of key personnel.

The company will now be led by former technical director Steve Vickers as the new managing director, with Julie Cox continuing as financial director and Mark Wilcox who has been promoted to sales director. Ron Allen, Filon’s previous MD will continue to work for the company on a part-time basis, as chairman.

Filon says the move has been well received by employees, customers and other stakeholders, as a positive, well-managed evolution – building on the company’s proven business model.

Steve Vickers, Filon’s new managing director, said: “Continuity has always been central to Filon’s management philosophy, with a strong focus on employee relations and career development within the company. I’m an example of this myself, having been with the company since 1978. I’m excited to now take on the challenge of leading the team that I’ve helped to build over the years.”

Since Filon moved to its 4-acre site in Burntwood, Staffordshire in 2005, the company says it has enjoyed sustained growth and has continued to focus on its core GRP rooflighting and sheeting products.

Filon Products describes itself as a leader and innovator in glass reinforced polyester (GRP) products for the building and construction industry. The core range of Filon’s products includes the popular tried and trusted profiled GRP rooflights and roof sheets for industrial roofs. Filon also manufactures specialist products for markets including oil and gas, chemical, marine and transport. One of Filon’s most familiar products is its range of GRP flat plate MPGRP that is used for traffic signs that can be seen throughout Britain’s road network.

Steve Vickers continued: “Filon has been a pioneer in GRP products for many years and today GRP is widely recognised as an excellent mainstream construction material for a huge variety of buildings and applications. We will continue in our role as innovators and manufacturers of arguably the most complete range of GRP roofing and construction products in the world.”
