John Brash & Co. has picked up two awards at the Gainsborough Business Awards 2015, including the title of Business of the Year.
The company also won in the category of Best Use of Innovation/Technology after investing nearly £1m to install Goldeneye, the company’s dedicated roofing batten scanning line, at the end of 2014 as part of plans to increase growth in the wake of new quality rules for the UK housing and construction industry.
Chris Watson, managing director of John Brash, collected the awards on behalf of the company, which employs more than 110 people at its Old Shipyard site in Beckingham and has become firmly established as the one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of graded timber roofing battens, shingles and shakes, scaffold boards, and commercial anti-slip decking.
Mr. Watson said it was an especially proud moment as he was well aware that the awards were judged by some of the leading figures from the Gainsborough business community.
He added: “It’s no exaggeration to say that I’m the proudest managing director in the UK at the moment because the awards shine a light on what we have been fully focused on achieving at John Brash.
“John Brash has put Gainsborough on the map as a centre of excellence not just in the UK but across Europe for the quality of our products and our level of innovation and investment, which will ensure we remain the market leader for roofing battens.”
The company says the awards cap a remarkable year for the fourth-generation family-run company, which celebrates its 110th birthday later this year.
The awards, which were the brainchild of Ideafuel Creative and Langleys Solicitors to recognise the achievements of the business community in Gainsborough and the surrounding areas, are now in their sixth year. Nearly 200 local businesspeople attended this year’s event, which was held at The White Heather at Caenby Corner. The master of ceremonies was Melvyn Prior, presenter of the morning show on BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
