Sheffield roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks, are celebrating after one of its trainees bagged a prestigious local award celebrating the talents of young tradespeople.
Korneliusz Kasa was presented with the Construction and Technical prize at the Sheffield City Council Apprenticeship Awards 2018.
Martin-Brooks’ managing director, John Elmore, accompanied Korneliusz to a special ceremony, held at Sheffield Town Hall, at which the winners were announced. He also collected a certificate of commendation for the firm recognising its efforts in nurturing a top performing apprentice.
Korneliusz was praised by the judges for his positive attitude to work and further education, along with his drive and determination to succeed. He is undertaking a roofing apprenticeship at Martin-Brooks with day release at Sheffield College and is expected to complete his NVQ level two in just 18 months.
John Elmore said: “We were keen to put Korneliusz forward for this award, as he has shown maturity and professionalism beyond his years since the day we interviewed him. To receive independent commendation of his efforts is the icing on the cake. He is a credit to the firm and particularly his mentors on site, who are helping him become a highly competent roofer.”
The Apprenticeship Awards 2018 were organised by the council’s employment and skills service, Opportunity Sheffield. Categories included: office (business administration), office (it and housing), hospitality and care, early years and education and construction and technical.
