The National Association of Rooflight Manufacturers (NARM) has updated its Quickguide 08 entitled: ‘Understanding CWCT Classifications of Rooflight Types’, as the testing body looks to identify what glass size and type of rooflight can be deemed safe for anyone working on it or near it.
Stuart Middle, technical committee chairman at NARM, said: “Recent developments in glass rooflight design, including the rise in popularity of so-called ‘walk-on’ rooflights, have led to a degree of confusion around their specification. This document has been produced to provide a quick overview to help specifiers avoid potentially dangerous mistakes.”
The Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) tests for non-fragility, comprising soft and hard body impact tests, as well as a load retention test, with four classifications assigned by its standards. The classes 0, 1, 2 and 3 are all simplified in NARM’s new document.
