New aluminium fabrications guidance from MCRMA

MCRMA Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association logoThe Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA) has produced a new guidance document, GD26 Aluminium Fabrications and Flashings: best practice design and fixing guide which offers best practice advice on the design of aluminium fabrications and flashings, including fasteners and sealants.

The 22-page guidance document includes guidance on material thickness, thermal movement, fastener position, fabrication junctions, fasteners and sealants.

The MCRMA says that all profiled steel and aluminium roofing and cladding systems rely upon mechanical fasteners to secure the system to the structure, and sealants to seal junctions and the importance of the correct selection and application of fasteners and sealants is often underestimated by designers and left to the experience of the fixer on site.

The Association added that the adoption by industry of the guidelines outlined in this document will lead to better and more consistent metal roofing and cladding construction.

The guide can be downloaded from the MCRMA website at http://mcrma.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/GD26-Aluminium-fabs-May-2016.pdf
