The female head of a growing Cambridgeshire-based roofing business has won an award recognising woman in construction.
Jackie Biswell, who set up Apex Roofing in 2012, has been awarded the ‘Most Outstanding Female in Roofing – East Anglia’ category in Build magazine’s ‘2019 Leading Women in Build & Construction’ awards.
With women only representing 11% of the construction workforce, the awards aim to recognise women in the industry who work hard, create role models and inspire younger women to consider a career in construction.
On her award, Jackie said: “I am immensely proud to win this accolade as I know how hard it is for women to enter an industry that is mainly dominated by men. Apex Roofing has proved that construction doesn’t have to be a man’s world and awards like this, help to show why our sector should be considered by more women as a viable career choice.
“With the skills shortage and uncertainty of Brexit, making sure that we are inclusive and diverse within our work and who we employee will put us in better stead for the future.”
