Mike Reddington joined Burton Roofing Merchants in November 2018, having honed his skills in scaling businesses’ online activity to multi-million-pound turnovers, whilst maintaining profitability. It’s been a busy eight months for the roofing supplier and it comes as no surprise to Mike that the company’s online sales figures went through the roof in May.
“The construction industry online is somewhat 10 years behind, so it was inevitable that gains would be made,” explained Mike. “Therefore, it was the perfect opportunity to grow the online side of things in an already established successful business.”
When asked whether roofers will change their shopping habits, Mike said: “Why not! Everyone else has and our new improved website provides 24/7 capability and fast delivery”. But it’s not just roofers buying online, as Mike added: “There’s the savvy self-builders: the DIY market is huge, and householders are increasingly paying for their roofing materials.”
Key components to Burton Roofing Merchant’s online success, so far, include helpful and knowledgeable staff, and nationwide distribution systems already in place to cope with the increasing ecommerce sales. From an initial online enquiry via the livechat function to fast delivery, the company continues to meet its customer’s high expectations. TrustPilot bears testimony to that, with a maintained, impressive five-star rating and excellent customer reviews.
Mike’s hands-on approach implements best practice strategy and promotes teamwork. With serious aspirations for the future, Burton Roofing Merchants is currently extending its York depot to create a dedicated ecommerce hub, which will provide new jobs in the future, on top of the Ecommerce Web Chat Lead, several apprentices and new creative assistant that is already in place.
Mike goes on to say: “We’re building a great team and we’re growing the ecommerce side of the business, whilst ensuring that our customers are happy. I can’t believe it’s been over six months already and I’m very proud of our successes so far and acutely aware that it couldn’t have happened without the help of our colleagues.”
Along with the dedicated new distribution centre in Livingston, Mike describes the “massive changes” to both the front and back end of the website. Changes focusing on ease of use perhaps won’t be so apparent to the end-user, but there’s noticeably many more product ranges available to online customers, and Burton Roofing Merchants is keen to talk to any manufacturer it isn’t currently working with.
