Richard Soan Roofing raises the roof in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust

Richard Soan Roofing Services’ 2019 Charity Race Day event raised £52,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Held annually at Brighton Racecourse, the event included an auction, champagne reception, lunch and an afternoon’s racing, with all proceeds going to the charity.

The lead up to the eagerly anticipated Richard Soan Roofing annual fundraising event on Friday, August 9, for Teenage Cancer Trust at Brighton Racecourse had been fraught with worry last week. Weather apps had been visited daily, amidst the unseasonal rain and high winds forecast for the Friday of the occasion. However, on the day the sun shone brightly and Richard Soan worked his magic again. The marquee, perfectly located beside the final furlong of the course, was bustling with 320 guests from the roofing and construction industry, attending what has become a regular highlight on their summer social calendar.

With a glass of fizz in hand, they settled down to a sumptuous three course meal punctuated by fundraising games before the racing began. Richard has been hosting these events now for many years and knows how to work the crowd! As a seasoned auctioneer, he created what can only be described as a frenzy during the 18 auction lots held throughout the afternoon. This became an entertainment in itself, causing much hilarity to those looking on. By the end of the day, an incredible £52,000 plus had been raised, which in the words of Richard “blew him away”“It is the most we have ever raised” he went on to explain, “but I can only thank the amazing generosity and support of all those who attended.  It is such a worthy cause and every penny goes into making a difference”.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK Charity specialising in the care and support of young people with cancer. Their specialist units bring young people together and enable them to have the much-needed support during the challenges of cancer. There are 28 specialist units within NHS hospitals across the UK, and 48 nurses and youth support co-ordinators, which sadly receives no Government funding.

The rain did come later, but by then this dazzling event had come to a close and nothing could put the dampeners on what had been such an enjoyable and highly successful day.
