ROCKWOOL UK gets go-ahead for Pencoed site expansion

Stone wool insulation manufacturer, ROCKWOOL UK, has been granted permission by Bridgend County Borough Council to develop a new 20-acre storage area at its Pencoed site in South Wales.

Planning permission has been given for the development of the land to the south of the existing factory site. The works will increase on-site capacity to store and distribute the wide range of stone wool insulation products manufactured at the site. It will also improve traffic management thanks to a new access road and loading area for hauliers.

The new logistics centre will enable ROCKWOOL to utilise capacity created by a factory extension, allowing for a 60% increase in output. This expansion responds to trends in urbanisation and high density, mixed-use developments, which have driven year-on-year growth in demand for sustainable insulation products that perform across thermal, acoustic and fire safety needs.

Darryl Matthews, managing director of ROCKWOOL UK, said: “We are delighted to have already created 50 new permanent jobs this year. This development will result in 65 more jobs at ROCKWOOL, as well as providing opportunities for other businesses through our commitment to working with local suppliers on these works. The new facility comes at a great time when ROCKWOOL will be celebrating 40 years of business in Wales in 2019.”
