Rugeley family-run and owned General Building Plastics (GB Plastics) is through to the final round of the annual Family Business of the Year Awards organised by Family Business United (FBU).
The second generation family business has taken one of the coveted finalist spots in the Award’s Midlands Family Business of the Year, with this final round and overall Award winner being determined through a combination of a judging panel and online public vote.
The awards process concludes at a Gala Reception and awards ceremony at the Mayfair Hotel in London on June 8, where all the 2017 Award winners will be crowned.
GB Plastics is a retailer and specialist supplier of quality low maintenance building products to the trade and DIY sectors, and has its head office in Rugeley, Staffordshire.
The company was founded in 1990 by Janet Sutherland who still works in the business, alongside her eldest daughter Wendy Hill and son Alan Sutherland, both directors of the business, and youngest daughter Clare Falls.
Now in their fifth year, the Awards are open to family firms of all generations, sizes and sectors, and recognise outstanding family firms and the diversity, strength and depth of family firms across the UK to highlight the contribution that family firms make to the UK economy.
GB Plastics is one of twelve family firms shortlisted for the Midlands Family Business of The Year 2017 Award, sponsored by PwC. The company has a strong track record in family business sector awards, having been crowned Britain’s Best Small Business in the national Red Ribbon Awards in 2015, and was a finalist in the same year in the Midlands Family Business Awards.
Commenting on being a finalist in this year’s FBU Midlands Family Business of the Year Awards, GB Plastics’ director Wendy Hill said: “We are delighted to be finalists in the Midlands Family Business of the Year Award. Reaching the final round has given us a really brilliant start to the year. We are all looking forward to great things in 2017 and are very proud to be associated with these prestigious family business awards and to make the shortlist alongside such successful and amazing family businesses from across the region.”
