Swish Building Products adds to environmental credentials

swishbpSwish Building Products has succeeded in reducing its carbon footprint for a sixth consecutive year and now produces 32% less cardon dioxide than in 2008.

In 2014, despite a record number of tonnes of material being processed, emissions from Swish’s manufacturing processes were down 6.5% per tonne compared to 2013. Similarly, the company’s electricity consumption was also down 5.8%, marking an overall improvement of more than 30% since 2008 – equivalent to powering 1,050 UK homes.

Despite this reduction, electricity remains the company’s largest resource consumption, but last year also saw Swish Building Products use more gas than ever before due to its increasing manufacturing demands. However, despite this surge in usage, the company remained 50% more efficient than 2013, and produced 40% less carbon through its gas usage than 2008.

Water costs proved to be the company’s biggest saving; it is now 62% more efficient, having saved 5,500,000 litres of water in just six years.

Greg Wilde, marketing manager for Swish Building Products, said:

“With 67% of UK consumers now more likely to buy a product with a low carbon footprint (Carbon Trust), and environmental performance high on the agenda for tender criteria, our continued improvement is incredibly valuable.  It’s an asset that benefits the entire supply chain.”
