Birtley-based Roofclad Systems (Roofclad) has reported another buoyant year with turnover expected to touch the £5m mark this financial year-end.

An £80k investment in new fabrication machinery and equipment as well as six additional vehicles at the start of 2016 was followed later in the year by new storage facilities, roof walkways and a further long wheel-based vehicle.

The firm says this has led to greater flexibility, productivity and profitability over the 2016-17 trading period for Roofclad which looks set to result in a £500k year-on-year increase in turnover.

Additionally, the firm picked up a raft of new work over the course of the year throughout the north of England. Some recently completed contracts include a new school at Duns for Graham construction; a project for injection moulding specialist Rosti McKechnie at Stamford Bridge; a project for Volvo Trucks at Blyth; a new Lidl store in Houghton le Spring on behalf of Tolent; a Morrison’s supermarket in Hull; and at Spennymoor, the re-roofing of the old Electrolux site for the new owners.

To set the seal on another year of growth, Roofclad has been appointed to undertake a partial strip and re-sheet of the roof at the well-known country store, Robson & Cowan of Scots Gap near Morpeth. Work began on the contract at the start of the month and is expected to be complete by March 2017.

Roofclad is now managed day-to-day by Alex Tilley after his father David, whom bought the business in 2014, moved into the role of chairman during the course of 2016.

Speaking about his future plans, Alex said: “With the investment we have made in the new fleet of vehicles and additional equipment, we are not at all limited geographically when it comes to picking up new work and the plan is to focus on larger, new sheds and re-sheeting contracts for established names up and down the country in the year ahead.

“We have a healthy order book for 2017 and prospects for the business are looking very good indeed.”

Recently confirmed, a further major project due on site is the re-roofing of the entire Ferryhill Industrial Estate for Durham County Council, while at Carlisle and Stirling, two Volvo Trucks roofing contracts are underway as well as a re-roofing project at Teesbay Retail Park, Hartlepool.
