Welsh Slate has continued to boost its support for roofing apprentices by donating 12 tonnes of mixed roofing slates to South Lanarkshire College and sponsoring a regional apprentice
“craft” award.
The North Wales-based manufacturer awarded the prize to Scott Cunningham over a dozen other advanced craft apprentices from all over the west of Scotland. Mr. Cunningham has awarded a trophy from Welsh Slate with a œ100 voucher for B&Q by the company’s Scottish and north-east representative, Alex Grant.
This award was in addition to Welsh Slate donating eight pallets of slates to give first, second and third-year students hands-on experience of cutting and fixing slate on mobile training rigs in the college workshops.
John McGinley, curriculum manager at South Lanarkshire College, said:
“This latest help from Welsh Slate is absolutely fantastic. Most colleges have a budget to work to and we could probably never afford the amount of slate they have given us. The fact that it’s such a quality product is an even bigger bonus.”
