Werner has warned ladder users to take extra care ahead of this year’s Valentine’s Day (14 February.

The company stated that an accident could turn a romantic night in or out into a hospital visit.

Dave Elson, Werner’s compliance manager, said: “While flowers and chocolates are synonymous with celebrating 14 February with your partner, it is also the perfect time to show your ladder some love through routine inspections and basic maintenance.

“Ladders are some of the most relied upon yet frequently overlooked tools. Regular maintenance and inspections – particularly after winter use, or storage – can help prevent slips, falls, and sudden failures. It takes just a few minutes to do – a small price to pay to stay safe.”

Werner has listed some of the actions that should be carried out when giving ladders a ‘once over’. The company suggested that ladder users should examine stiles, rungs and treads for corrosion, cracks and bends, ensure all fasteners are secure and undamaged, check moving parts and keep the ladder and its feet clean.

Dave added: “We advise everyone to check their ladders before use – don’t ever become complacent. Make sure you stay especially safe leading up to and on Valentine’s Day, so you can enjoy a romantic celebration with your partner and not endure a traumatic visit to accident and emergency!”
