Deborah Services looks to a safe future with new appointment

Deborah Services has welcomed Sal Lack as its new SHEQ (health, safety, environment and quality) director.

Ms. Lack joins the company after 13 years with J Murphy & Sons but her experience covers a number of other industries, including utilities and civil engineering. Her achievements include setting up a commercial training department; managing health and safety on a billion-pound rail electrification alliance project; and being part of a joint venture in a power station alliance that builds and extends substations across the UK.

Ms. Lack said: “Apart from instilling a culture of support, I always focus on finding robust solutions to keep people safe in such a way that we don’t compromise a site functioning efficiently. Sounds easy but the devil’s in the detail.

“My degree and masters were focused on the environment – its management, legislation, site control and mitigation. My drive at Deborah Services is to integrate every environmental and safety system across the company.  I want us all sharing best practice and working as one so we’re consistent, whether you’re hanging from a rope, stood on a scaffold 100 feet in the air or feet firmly on the ground in a Deborah Services branch.”

Chris Foulkes, managing director of Deborah Services Industrial Services, said: “Sal brings both extensive environmental and health and safety experience to Deborah Services. Although the SHEQ values are already strong in our business, we appointed Sal because of her vision to reinforce those values by integrating all our systems across the business as a whole.”
