Innovation Roofing has employed Hanna Weaver who will work alongside experienced team leaders to gain hands-on experience, and study for a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations over a three-year period with Newcastle College at the same time.

Hanna has always had an interest in construction and seized the opportunity to take her first step via an online advert. Speaking about her new career in roofing, Hanna said: “It was clear from the beginning how welcoming Innovation Roofing would be and I am really enjoying my new role.”

Dean Goyns, operations director at Innovation Roofing, added: “Hanna has made an incredible start. Her progress since joining us has been outstanding and she is already an integral part of the team. Being able to take on apprentices and give them the opportunity to learn and experience work was something we were keen to do.”

So far Hanna has been getting to grips with laying Marley Eternit Rivendale Slates, on a six-bedroom detached farmhouse. She has been refining her slate cutting and laying skills whilst on-site, as well as taking responsibility for the site setup and site clean-up each day.

Innovation Roofing is looking forward to its continued support of inclusivity and apprenticeships during its accelerated growth. The business is on target to double in size over the next six months, and its imminent recruitment of two further roofing teams is likely to include more apprentices.

Hanna and other apprentices joining the intake this year will continue their apprenticeships until 2022 when they finish their NVQ Level 2 awards.

For those interested in apprenticeships on offer, more information is available via the Newcastle College website.
