IoR online training accepted in RoofCERT programme

A number of online courses offered by the Institute of Roofing (IoR) have been recognised as part of the NFRC’s RoofCERT accreditation programme.

Independently certified by leading bodies, these six courses include Abrasive Wheels, Fire Safety, Working at Height, Manual Handling, First Aid, Asbestos Awareness and Fire Marshal.

The NFRC’s RoofCERT accreditation programme provides individual roofers with visible proof of their essential roofing and safety management skills and requires a number of health and safety courses to be completed as part of the certification.

Stuart Hicks, chief executive officer of the IoR, said these courses are now being offered at £15 plus VAT each, reduced from £25 to help businesses during the difficult economic times because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking about the online training, Stuart said: “Making courses more accessible and affordable is our way of responding to this awful pandemic, as we believe training is still hugely important for employers and individuals. Even if job security is uncertain at the moment, it’s important to use this time wisely to upskill, think about training goals, qualifications you can add to your CV, and access the free information and guidance out there from trusted sources like industry associations.

“Working from home has recently become the new norm, but it can potentially have a negative impact on your mental health if, like many, you are used to being out on-site, meeting clients or working closely with colleagues. Days can seem long, unproductive and unstructured. By setting yourself learning goals, it can offer a sense of achievement, and help to look more positively to the future.”

Richard Miller, head of qualifications and standards at the NFRC, added: “The high quality of the IoR’s online training meant that we could include these courses within the required modules of the RoofCERT programme. The accreditation helps individuals demonstrate their technical knowledge and essential skills, enabling them to establish a lifelong career path and prove their competence to employers and clients. We encourage anyone thinking about developing their career further to look into this essential training.”

The aim of the IoR is to encourage and support continual learning and career development for those with supervisory, management and ownership roles within the roofing industry. For more information, visit www.instituteofroofing.org.
