Building envelope specialist, ITP Ltd, supplied two Euroclass A-rated building membranes for the redevelopment of Longton Lane Community Primary School in Rainhill, Merseyside.
The project features Stamisol A1, an A1-rated breather membrane, and FlameOut Block Class A, an A2-rated vapour control layer. Supplied by ITP via Travis Perkins’ Regional Developers Team, the two products are providing dual protection for the building envelope.
Designed by multi-award-winning practice, Ellis Williams, the scheme involves the demolition of existing school buildings and removal of hard standing and car park areas, making way for new facilities which will increase pupil capacity to 312. Contractor Tilbury Douglas is overseeing the construction of the new two-storey school behind an existing building.
The ground floor includes six classes, a library, Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) resource room, assembly hall, medical room, offices and kitchen. The first floor comprises seven classrooms, a staff area, studio room, offices and various group rooms.
Stamisol A1 has been installed outside the insulation layer to provide a highly breathable membrane facilitating the release of water vapour and preventing the build-up of condensation. Manufactured by Serge Ferrari Stamisol UK and supplied in the UK by ITP, Stamisol A1 has been developed as a leading solution for closed façades. Independently tested to EN 13501-1, with a lifetime guarantee for its A1 fire rating, the membrane provides the highest possible fire and smoke protection.
Installed on the inside of the insulation is FlameOut Block Class A, a highly effective vapour barrier manufactured by ITP. The membrane is enhancing the building’s air tightness and preventing moisture within the building’s warm air from reaching the insulation layer. It has a W1 rating for water tightness, excellent water vapour resistance, a reflective surface for extra energy efficiency and a Euroclass A2-s1,d0 rating which matches the fire safety classification required for other vertical wall elements on buildings over 18m.
ITP Sales Director, Matt Thompson, said: “Longton Lane Community Primary School demonstrates ITP’s ability to supply A-rated solutions for multiple applications within the building envelope. Stamisol A1 is a new addition to the range of building membranes supplied by ITP. This is one of the first projects in the UK to specify the product and I’m sure there will be many more projects in the coming years.
“Unlike other A1-rated breather membranes on the market, Stamisol A1 is engineered for durability to ensure its key functions maintain a high performance in the long term. The product is age-tested and has a W2 water tightness rating with 336 hours UV ageing prior to the water test.”
ITP supplies and manufactures a wide choice of advanced breather membranes and vapour control layers with Euroclass A1, A2 and B fire ratings which are fully compliant for use in high-rise and higher-risk buildings.
The range of solutions also includes breather membranes with W1 water tightness ratings, making them suitable for use with open-jointed cladding.
