ArcelorMittal UK joins MCRMA

A UK division of ArcelorMittal has joined the MCRMA, an industry association that represents the metal building envelope sector.

ArcelorMittal Construction UK (AMCUK) said it has joined the association to support its growth plans for its metal roofing and cladding products and systems, three years after the company acquired Architectural Steel (ASL). The company has recently expanded into the manufacture of cold rolled sheeting profiles for the built-up cladding market and mineral wool core sandwich panels, which are produced at its Manchester and Birmingham manufacturing plants respectively.

Membership of the MCRMA aligns with ArcelorMittal’s global vision to work in partnership with customers, the industry and communities more broadly to support and enhance the understanding, sustainability and performance of built environments, it was added.

Mark Wiper, the company’s national technical manager, said: “Our business recognises the MCRMA as the pre-eminent trade body in the UK for metal building envelope products, so becoming a member and joining many like-minded businesses at the forefront of the industry was an important step for us.

“We look forward to making a positive contribution to the valuable work that the MCRMA carries out for the benefit of its members, as well as the wider construction industry. We are also keen to share our knowledge, insights and experience from ArcelorMittal globally, which we hope will be beneficial to all members at whichever point of the supply chain they operate.”

Carlton Jones, director of the MCRMA, added: “We are delighted to welcome ArcleorMittal Construction to the association. Mark and his colleagues have a wealth of technical expertise in steel products that I am sure will be of interest to everyone from roofing and façade designers to those involved in maintenance and repair.

“The association thrives on having a diverse range of member companies, from the SMEs specialising in building envelope design and inspection right through to the world’s largest manufacturers, whose perspectives on the sector may be very different but equally valuable. That’s why it is excellent news to have another globally significant systems manufacturer as part of our membership.”
