Howletts Zoo reached out to the SIG Roofing branch in Folkestone for assistance with roofing materials for an elephant enclosure.
In August last year, the SIG Roofing Folkestone branch collaborated with Kevin Rae from the SIG Industrial Roofing Centre (IRC) and Andy, the maintenance supervisor at Howlett Zoo, for a site visit.
The IRC team developed a customised solution that is structurally sound, secure, and fully compliant with zoo regulations. They used single skin sheets and fabricated purlins that span 10 meters, providing exactly what was needed for the project.
Howletts Zoo, located in Littlebourne near Canterbury, is part of the Aspinall Foundation. The zoo serves as a breeding centre for rare and endangered animals. Over the past 40 years, its animal care methods have established it as a world leader in breeding rare species, including African elephants.
