IKO ‘sets the standard’ with BES 6001

BES6001_BlueIKO’s Bituminous and Liquid Membranes division at Appley Bridge, Wigan has recently achieved the BES 6001 Standard for responsible sourcing of construction products.

This latest accreditation means that all three of its divisions – IKO’s Polymeric Single Ply and Structural Waterproofing plant at Clay Cross, Chesterfield and the Hot Melt and Mastic Asphalt site at Grangemill, Derbyshire now comply to BES 6001.

In 2015, IKO also celebrated the achievement of the last of its UK manufacturing plants reaching the environmental management standard, certifying that the Bituminous & Liquid Membranes site, the Polymeric Single Ply and Structural Waterproofing site, and the Hot Melt and Mastic Asphalt site now meet the requirements for ISO 14001.

The ISO 14001 and BES 6001 standards are increasingly specified on major projects as more companies seek assurances on the environmental impact and responsible sourcing of construction materials. Testing is rigorous and must pass third-party assessment against the requirements of the standard.

Andy Williamson, group managing director for IKO PLC commented: “Getting ISO 14001 and BES 6001 has been a high priority for IKO. As our company tagline spells out, IKO is ‘Setting the Standard’. We aim for this in everything we do, from product innovation, service and support, to achieving relevant accreditations that confirm our commitment to quality and the environment.”
