Timber supplier Arnold Laver says it has expanded its presence in North London after opening a new depot in Borehamwood. The investment cost £1.5 million and has initially created 12 jobs in the local area.
The company says it has completely refurbished an existing 30,000 ft2 warehouse that sits within a three-acre site, just off Chester Road on Hertsmere Industrial Park. The depot is now said to offer a modern storage and distribution facility, offices and meeting rooms. There’s also a large showroom area that showcases a wide range of the company’s products including softwoods, hardwoods, panels, doors, decorative materials, laminates, melamine faced chipboards and high-gloss panels.
This latest expansion means the company’s timber division now employs more than 700 people, and there are plans to recruit further as the Borehamwood site continues to grow.
Martin Pearse, regional director at Arnold Laver, explained: “We’re delighted to expand into Borehamwood which gives us a strong foothold in North London as well as complementing our existing depots to the East and West of London in Rainham and Reading.
“This depot will hold approximately £1 million worth of stock and has been specifically designed around the customers it’s serving, incorporating all the best features from our 12 other sites. This has enabled us to create a highly efficient warehouse facility with guided rail picking and seven-metre-high racking, a large collection area that’s easily accessible for all types of commercial vehicles and an impressive showroom where customers can view products.”
Martin added: “When this is combined with our highly knowledgeable team, there’s no doubt this new depot will become the first-choice supplier for North London’s contractors, developers, tradespeople, as well as private homeowners who want the widest possible range of timber and timber-based products.”
