Axter achieves Gold Carbon Literate accreditation

Axter has announced becoming accredited as a Gold Carbon Literate Organisation, highlighting the organisation’s dedication towards tackling climate change and reducing its organisational carbon emissions.

Axter said it is the first roofing manufacturer to earn this accreditation, and it follows a recent award of Sustainability Strategy and B Corp certification.

Carbon Literacy is defined as “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.

A key innovation contributing to Axter’s Gold certification was its collaboration with sustainability consultancy Hattrick to develop a bespoke Carbon Literacy training course for roofing installers, a statement added.

Phillip Wilcox-Moore, managing director at Axter, said: “Achieving Gold status is a proud moment for Axter and a testament to the passion and commitment of our people. We believe that real change comes from within, and that empowering our team with climate knowledge is the most powerful step we can take to create a more sustainable future for our industry. We are equally proud to be B Corp certified, placing us among a small number of firms in our industry who meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact.”

Dave Coleman, co-founder and managing director of The Carbon Literacy Project, said: “By becoming a Gold accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Axter has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact and the building of a low carbon future for us all.”
