The Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) has appointed Alan Harvey, group transport director for Harlow Timber Group as Sector Chair for its Transport and Distribution Forum.
Alan began his career in 1985 joining the British Army’s Royal Corps of Transport, which became the Royal Logistics Corps in 1993. Over his 25-year career in the Army he served all over the world as a logistician.
Following this, as head of auditing for The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), he was responsible for ensuring that the body’s accredited organisations were audited in line with its standard.
He then moved into building materials distribution, joining Travis Perkins Group as the compliance and road risk manager helping them to better measure, manage and reduce road risk.
In 2020, he joined Harlow Timber Group in his current role and has been a key member of the BMF Transport Working Group since then.
