Sika launches new white paper to specification market

Global building product manufacturer Sika has launched its new white paper which has a focus on Cradle to Cradle® certification, and it’s new, revolutionary single ply membrane technology – Sarnafil® AT (Advanced Technology).

Globally renowned for high quality construction solutions and with a commitment to raising industry standards, Sika’s Sarnafil® AT roofing membrane is the only single ply product to be Cradle to Cradle® Certified, independently assessed to a Silver certification by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, who globally assess products to ensure they are more sustainable and safer for the circular economy.

The white paper explains what Cradle to Cradle® is, the basic concept of materials being used in safe cycles. The design approach integrates a number of categories linked to assessment and certification:

  • Environmentally harmless, healthy materials (material health)
  • Reutilisation of materials, e.g., by recycling or composting
  • Use of renewable energy and carbon management
  • Water management and water-quality improvement
  • Social responsibility strategies

Other sustainability documentation is also referenced, such as Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) explaining what an EPD is, what types there are, what information does it contain, and what validity you should expect to see. Other topics such as the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) and the Green Claims Code appear in the white paper too.

In addition to product certification, the white paper also discusses BREEAM and LEED certification systems for the environmental assessment of buildings.

“For Sika, sustainability is one of our most important strategic pillars used for the benefit of all stakeholders,” said Mark Harris, Head of Sustainability for Sika’s Roofing business, “our strategy 2028 makes a clear commitment to sustainable growth, and our framework for managing sustainability in our product innovation is a key objective of this approach.”
