Over the past few weeks, Protech Roofing has adapted the way it works and is now seeing the benefits, as business is booming, according to the Leeds-based company.
Since lockdown began, Protech Roofing has continued to carry out essential work across the region, as well as secure a number of new business contracts and receive two National Roofing Awards nominations for Yorkshire-based projects.
Protech founder and managing director, David McLean, has remained driven and proactive over the last few weeks and business has continued to flourish. Determined to keep his 20 staff employed, David and his team have embraced new ways of working, including conducting video calls with prospective clients, to help secure new contracts.
With six-figure projects spread across Yorkshire and the north west continuing to come through, such as the Creative Arts Building at Leeds Beckett University, Frederick House in Stockport and Sovereign House Leeds, David and his team are busier than ever.
Projects at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Redeness Street in York have all been secured during lockdown and are testament to David and the teams hard work and flexibility during the pandemic.
“It was important for me to keep the momentum of the business going and when other businesses decided to stop working and put their staff on furlough, we decided to adapt and embrace a new way of working, and I’m delighted to say that it’s paid off,” said David.
“I made sure that all staff were happy to work and conducted risk assessments to ensure we’re keeping to government guidelines at all times. Having the option to work from home and on rotation in the office has given everyone a sense of freedom over the last few weeks. It has allowed us to reassess and focus on us as a business and create new ways to communicate with our clients. Conducting meetings over video call has made our working day much more efficient, it has cut down on our travel time, and helped set us apart from some of our competitors. It’s certainly a process we’ll adopt going forward.”
The business, which was established in 1996, has also recently been nominated for two National Roofing Awards. The first award nomination is for Protech’s work on Benson House on Wellington Street in Leeds, focusing on its use of a bituminous hot applied liquid waterproofing system.
The second nomination is for Protech’s work on a multi-discipline project worth over £250,000. This nomination focuses on the work undertaken by Protech on the University of Sheffield’s Engineering Heartspace project.
Protech previously won a National Award in 2017 for the re-roofing of the iconic Kirkgate Market in Leeds, whilst the market was still fully operational.
Commenting on the awards, David said: “We’ve won National Roofing Awards previously for projects across Yorkshire, so to be nominated again is fantastic. The team have worked tirelessly on both projects and have done an incredible job in producing an excellent finish worthy of an award.”
