The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has expressed its support for proposals that will see the construction industry only specify and promote card schemes carrying the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) logo.
At its meeting on November 26 2014, CLC identified an action within the Construction 2025 industrial strategy that set out a commitment to identify one card scheme that would be promoted through public procurement.
In a letter written on behalf of the Strategic Forum for Construction (SFfC) and CLC, SFfC co-chair Tony Barton announced that rather than identifying one card scheme, the Construction Leadership has agreed that from January 2015 the industry – including trade associations, contractors, clients and Government – should specify and promote card schemes carrying the CSCS logo with no equivalents accepted.
However, Mr. Barton added that
“there is no intention to create a monopoly scheme”, and expressed the CLC’s desire to ensure that all those affected by the decision are made aware of the proposals. He also outlined the varying requirements that card schemes carrying the CSCS logo will meet.
