A freedom of information (FOI) request made by Unite, the UK and Ireland’s largest union, has revealed that the government’s pension policy is ‘failing construction workers’.
With just 23% regularly paying into a workplace pension, many workers are ‘likely to face poverty in retirement’, according to Unite.
Unite says the paucity of construction workers paying into a pension is ‘a major failure’ of the government’s auto-enrolment pension scheme, which was designed to ensure that all employees pay into a workplace pension.
