IKO has contributed to a new episode of the BBC’s DIY SOS after the company donated several rolls of its Rubershield breather membrane to a project designed to provide suitable living space for a teenager with severe disabilities.

The project in Dartford was the biggest build ever on an individual house and was designed for Charlie, who was almost forced to move from the two-up, two-down end-of-terrace family home as it was unsuitable for the daily care he needed.

DIY SOS, with the help of dozens of local tradesmen and suppliers, rebuilt the whole of the downstairs and remodelled the rest of the house to provide a significantly better living environment, allowing Charlie to stay at home with his family.

The project marks the second time IKO has been involved with a project for the BBC One show after it contributed to an episode in 2014.

Andy Williamson, managing director of IKO Group, said: “We’re always looking to support great charities and help with projects. DIY SOS is one that we’re proud to contribute to for a second time. It’s heart-warming to know that the products we supplied has significantly helped Charlie and his family.”
