S and B EPS is celebrating the completion of its £4 million factory expansion

As part of a £4 million redevelopment, Cramlington-based S and B EPS has recently made a number of significant improvements to its business.

This includes the erection of two warehouse units, investment in new machinery and the creation of a modern office facility; all on its new 10 acre site.

S and B EPS, is a family-run business and has been manufacturing polystyrene products for over 40 years. It is said to be the UK’s largest single site EPS insulation manufacturer, and provides a vast range of building solutions to the country’s top housing developers, construction companies and beam manufacturers/installers.

Darren Smith, managing director of S and B EPS, said: “These are genuinely exciting times for us and we’re over the moon at how our expansion plans have taken shape. We outgrew the factory at our current site in Dudley some time ago, so when a large plot of land surrounding it came on the market, we knew that buying it would be a shrewd investment for us.”

The company was initially split across two sites with its manufacturing plant in Dudley and temporary office space/storage on Northumberland Business Park West. This expansion has allowed S and B EPS to consolidate all of its operations into one location, allowing management and technical staff to remain in close proximity to the production process. And this element alone is already reaping significant rewards.

“From our original plant, we were able to produce 400,000m3 of EPS insulation,” concluded Darren. “By constructing two new warehouses and investing in more modern machinery, over the forthcoming coming year, we have scope to manufacture 1,000,000m3+; more than double the previous amount. We have the capacity to store the insulation blocks twice as high and with our operatives working shifts, this equates to a massive increase in our production and supply capabilities.”
