The Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA) has launched a new charity event, which will help to raise vital funds for the mental health charity, Mind.
Open to everyone in the roofing and waterproofing industry, The LRWA Charity Dragon Boat Regatta will take place on May 2, 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
Teams will battle it out on the hotel’s lake in 30ft dragon boats, each comprising 10 paddlers and 1 drummer. The teams will be challenged to race 200 metres in a series of heats with the four fastest going through to a semi-final. The top two will then go head to head in a final race and the chance to win a prize. All sponsorship money raised by participants will be donated directly to Mind.
The event is the second fundraising initiative launched by the LRWA to help raise funds for the mental health charity. The association also raised £1,385 at the LRWA Awards and Gala Dinner in November 2018, thanks to donations from guests.
Sarah Spink, chief executive officer of the LRWA, said: “In our 40th anniversary year, we’re delighted to be in a position to launch this exciting new fundraising initiative. This is the first time we’ve organised a charity event of this size, and which is open to non members.
“It’s a great opportunity for companies and their clients to network and have fun, but most importantly, raise money for a very worthwhile cause. Mental health is a major issue affecting the entire construction industry, and that’s one of the main reasons why our members chose Mind as our dedicated charity this year.
“The LRWA awards helped to raise a fantastic amount of money in 2018 and we hope the regatta can generate even more this year.”
Those wishing to take part in the LRWA Charity Dragon Boat Regatta can pay to enter an entire team or as an individual or member of a mixed team. The day includes time for team training and activities, as well as a BBQ and networking opportunities. Corporate sponsorship packages are also available.
