Angus Blair-Park, an apprentice at Bracknell Roofing has been given the chance to become an apprentice quantity surveyor. Angus gained an understanding of different aspects of the business when he joined the team as an apprentice at the company’s Burton-upon-Trent head office straight from sixth form.
During his first two years, the 20-year-old – who is a keen amateur footballer and lives in Ashby-de-la-Zouch – started learning his trade in different departments, developing his skills and knowledge in areas such as estimating, purchasing and ordering.
Bracknell Roofing says that Angus has shown real aptitude and says it feels that the time is right for him to take the next step on his career path by becoming an apprentice quantity surveyor. Angus says he is delighted with the move and said that he can’t wait to get his teeth into the role – especially because it will lead to more exposure to larger commercial contracts.
Angus commented: “Bracknell Roofing works on so many projects at any one time so the fast-paced environment is really challenging and this has brought out the best in me.
“I feel I’ve learned so much already and I’m ready to step up another gear and support the company’s commercial managers on a range of roofing, tiling and slating projects on everything from individual refurbishment projects to large housing developments for major UK housebuilders.”
Simon Smith, Bracknell Roofing’s divisional director, said that Angus is another example of the company’s investment in young people paying dividends already: “The roofing industry’s challenge to attract young people into the sector to encourage the next generation of roofers is well documented, which is why our business works hard to attract talented individuals such as Angus.
“He has demonstrated great potential during his first couple of years, and his progression to an apprentice quantity surveyor is fully justified. The rest of the Bracknell Roofing team will continue to support and challenge him as he progresses in his new role.”
