This year Chandlers Roofing Supplies, as part of the larger Chandlers builders’ merchants, celebrates 25 years.
With Andrew Cope at the helm, the family-owned roofing supplier is said to be recognised as one of the South East’s super growth businesses. It is also listed in the London stock exchange group, ‘1000 companies to Inspire Britain’ for 2018.
Staff throughout its branches in Sussex, Surrey, London and the West Midlands celebrated with tea and cake this week.
Andrew Cope, managing director, said: “We are all very proud of our achievements. Our team of 210 employees, many of whom have been with us a lifetime, are truly exceptional. This is their success. Their knowledge of our vast ranges is second-to-none and that’s why our customers remain so loyal.”
Nigel Winston, manager at Chandlers Roofing Supplies, said: “Chandlers Roofing Supplies is a unique tight-knit community. As an organisation not only do we look after our own but there is a strong ethical backbone to the business to look after our customers as well as give back to the local communities in which we operate.”
The business reports an increase in turnover of just under 20% on the previous financial year, with an 18% in net profit. While it remains a 13-branch operation, it has grown its staff numbers by a third over the last year.
This strategy has enabled an investment of £1.5m in stock to expand the ranges offered, such supplying roofing at its newly-extended Brighton branch, and a half million pound investment in plant and machinery largely to develop its delivery and distribution service network.
Andrew Cope said: “The merchants’ sector is highly competitive, and while some of the larger players in this sector are struggling, the approach Chandlers Roofing Supplies has taken across Sussex, Surrey and West Midlands has allowed us to flourish.”
