Companies from across the roofing industry are rallying round to help build a new community workshop.
Located in Salford, Greater Manchester, the workshop will be a hub for local groups and host activities offered by Incredible Education, a not-for-profit organisation which runs forest schools and enables people of all ages to get involved in horticulture.
A range of building materials are needed to construct the new building, including insulation, waterproofing and components for its green roof.
Following an appeal by Terry Wain, former technical secretary of the Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA), several LRWA members have already stepped forward to help – including Sika, Centaur Technologies, Polyroof and Alumasc.
Other organisations to show their support for the project, include Maker of Things, which has long supported the Salford Working in Wood Group and has agreed to modify all the steelwork free of charge.
The new workshop will form part of the Cleavley Community Forest Garden which is being redeveloped by Incredible Education to offer a variety of facilities for the local community.
Speaking about the project, Terry said: “This initiative is very close to my heart as the building will provide a new home for the Salford Working in Wood Group, which I’ve been a member of for five years.
“The Group brings people from all backgrounds together to get involved in woodwork and socialise, which has a significant, positive impact on people’s wellbeing.
“We are regularly welcoming new members, including several people who have been referred by the mental health charity, Start.”
